Refurbished with OpenCore

Our refurbished Macs run the latest and greatest versions of macOS, even though Apple categorises them as Vintage or Obsolete. This is possible by OpenCore - a lightweight boot-time software package that seamlessly patches the incompatible parts of newer versions so that they can run perfectly on older hardware.

OpenCore is loaded before the operating system boots, and loads custom kernel extensions (kexts), a built-in function of macOS to fix bugs or other issues that would otherwise be present. Once macOS is running, OpenCore is completely silent - the operating system runs just like it would on any other computer!

OpenCore isn't a hack or other unlicened modification to the system - it uses features that are already built in to the system to update parts that would otherwise cause issues with newer operating systems. For example, newer versions of macOS may not include drivers for the audio device in an older Mac. OpenCore can add the kexts necessary (often just found in an older macOS version) so that those features can work properly again.

OpenCore can be updated itself so that it can work its magic on future versions of macOS, when the time comes. Security updates and other essential patches can be installed properly just like on any other Mac, so your refurbished computer can get the full benefit of running up-to-date software.
